Each month we highlight one of the talented practitioners at Portland Healing Space so our community can get to know the PHS family. This month Angela Freeman, LAc has stepped into the practitioner spotlight. We are delighted to have her join our family!
Angela brings with her a passion for women's health, fertility, and pregnancy with a strong skill set in relieving musculoskeletal pain and emotional trauma. Her gentle touch and highly intuitive use of essential oils helps to create a thoughtful, comfortable, and effective experience tailored to her patients' unique needs and energies. Don't be surprised if you fall asleep on her table! Check out her PHS practitioner page.
What brought you to Portland Healing Space?
I love working in a multi-disciplinary clinic where patients can reach an acupuncturist, chiropractor, naturopath, massage therapist and an aesthetician under one roof! PHS has been well received in a very competitive market as seen with four ‘2017 Doctors of the Year’ winners!
How did you decide to become an acupuncturist?
From an early age I’ve been interested in health and how to keep the body healthy with as little allopathic intervention as possible. As a Portland native I was blessed with two colleges that offer accredited acupuncture degrees and it was a natural fit.
Tell us what a patient can expect when receiving a treatment from you.
I believe the body heals more efficiently and effectively when in a relaxed state, so with each treatment I focus on stress reduction. I love essential oils and at PHS we offer a wide selection of Snow Lotus Essential Oils which are a lovely addition to most sessions. I also incorporate body work whether it’s acupressure, Shiatsu, or cupping to help relieve muscle tension.
What's something you wish more people knew about acupuncture?
People are always surprised when I talk about the efficacy of fertility and pregnancy with Chinese Medicine. Infertility is such a personal topic that a lot of people don’t talk about but is so prevalent in our society. Assisted reproductive technology is on the rise which is a blessing for those who have struggled with fertility but it’s also cost prohibitive. Acupuncture works to help regulate a woman’s cycle, improve egg quality, balance hormones (male and female) so the body can naturally conceive. I love working in women’s health and the complexities involved; from the onset of menses, pregnancy, peri-menopause and post menopausal issues.
What's your superpower?
Showing each patient what their superpower is :)
What's your favorite activity in Portland?
I love walking across one of the many bridges and admiring the city scape -magnificent!
Tell us about a memorable experience during your career.
In 2015 I had the pleasure of traveling to Nepal as a volunteer acupuncturist with Acupuncture Relief Project out of Vancouver, WA. As part of an international group of practitioners, we treated over 100 patients per day! The people I met left an indelible mark on my heart that I will always treasure - pure love and generosity!
