We sat down with Stephanie to learn more about her and her practice:
What brought you to Portland Healing Space?
I came to Portland Healing Space looking for a home to practice massage, and I have definitely found that space and nurturing community here.
Why did you decide to become a massage therapist?
I became a massage therapist to help people reconnect their minds to their bodies and rediscover their natural intuition about their bodies. So often people go through the motions of life, and it can be hard to be fully present and aware of what our bodies are trying to tell us. My goal is to bring clients back to homeostasis and the feeling of being centered within their body.
Tell us more about the services you offer?
I have been practicing massage for almost 7 years now and mainly do relaxation, Swedish, Deep tissue massage, and CranioSacral Massage. I'm also trained in prenatal massage and infant massage and have led different workshops over the year, includingfoam rolling, partner massage, and infant massage workshops around the city. I am also a certified yoga teacher and teach classes at Yoga for Life in North Portland.
What's something you wish more people knew about massage? What's it like to receive treatment from you?
I wish more people understood that massage isn’t just about pampering. It's very necessary for your body. Massage is about self-care and can help with so many more things than just stressed muscles; it can heal your mind and spirit, too.
Affecting the central nervous system is key to helping muscles relax and reducing pain. My massages are very relaxing and therapeutic. Using Swedish, deep tissue, and CranioSacral techniques, I create a unique massage that addresses each client's needs, wants, and healing process. This combination helps to release restrictions and knots, so the body can unwind and help heal itself. Sleeping on my table is very common and always welcome!
What's your superpower?
Oh goodness. I wish it was Flying. But I think I’m going to have to say my sense of humor?
What's your favorite thing about Portland?
My husband and I love trying out different restaurants around town, but my all time favorite is St. Jacks on NW 23rd. It's a delicious modern French bistro, and they serve the best gin martinis.
